Kos Airport “Hippocrates” (KGS) sits in the middle of the island at Antimachia, 24 km south-west of Kos Town and closer to Kardamena and Mastichari than to the capital. Named after the island’s most famous son, the father of medicine, it handles around three million passengers a year, nearly all between April and October, and is the gateway not only to Kos but, via the Mastichari ferry, to Kalymnos.
Fraport Greece extended the terminal in 2020–2021, so the summer waves of British, German, Dutch, Polish and Scandinavian charters now fit into one building with arrivals and departures on the same level. The bus stop, taxi rank and car park are all outside the doors.
The airport is mid-island: Kos Town is 24 km and about €40 by taxi or €3.60 by KTEL bus, while Kardamena and Mastichari are ten minutes and about €15. Kefalos and the north-coast resorts are 20–30 minutes; most package guests arrive by coach.

Yes, the KTEL Kos airport bus, roughly every 1–2 hours, timed to the flights, €3.60 to the driver, about 40–50 minutes to the KTEL station near the harbour. Gaps of two hours are normal and there is little evening service.
Take a taxi ten minutes to Mastichari (about €15) and the ferry from there, which crosses in about 40 minutes several times a day in summer. It is much quicker than going via Kos Town.
A taxi costs about €30 and takes 20–25 minutes; a pre-booked transfer is similar. In season a few KTEL buses a day run that way; check the timetable at the stop.
In the open-air car park beside the terminal, from about €3 an hour or €10 a day, first 10 minutes free. Space is rarely a problem, as most visitors leave by coach or taxi.
Only briefly; on Saturdays the forecourt is full of transfer coaches. Use the car park’s free first 10 minutes and check the live arrivals board before leaving Kos Town.
Avis, Budget, Hertz, Sixt, Europcar and Enterprise have desks in the terminal, alongside Kos companies that also deliver to hotels. The cars are on lots beside the terminal.
Not for the whole stay. The north coast and Kos Town are flat and cycle-friendly and the KTEL covers the main resorts. Rent for two or three days to see Kefalos, Zia and the south-west beaches, or for the Kalymnos ferry.
